The Christmas party season is now well under way, chances are you have already had or preparing for a work’s Christmas party or perhaps one with friends or family. The New Year’s Eve party is a firm favourite among UK party animals and most people will see in the New Year at a party of some sort. One popular type of party people go to is a fancy dress or costume party.
Fancy dress parties are among the most fun parties to go to as people can really express their creativity and sense of humour. Some people buy or hire costumes and some even have the talent and ingenuity to make their own, each one producing great and funny results!
Some party organisers will set a theme, hopefully one that permits many different characters and different costumes as it can be a bit embarrassing to turn up and see someone else wearing your costume too! It’s for this reason that some parties do not have a set theme or simply state a time period such as musicians and movie stars from the 1970s or 1980s.
A whole part of the fun of fancy dress costume parties is seeing who turns up as what. It’s great to have an excellent unique idea in your head and keeping it a secret right up to your entrance to the party. Another fun trick to play is wearing a mask or some other sort of costume which people won’t recognize as being you underneath the makeup or mask.
People have lots of fun at fancy dress parties whether they are dancing or taking photos of each other in funny poses. Going to and from the party can be just as fun as you cause many people to do double take or turn heads! Fancy dress parties can be ones where you go to someone’s house or a function room or if you are particularly brave you can go out to night clubs or bars on a night out.
One thing to bear in mind when choosing a costume though is ease of access if you need to go to the toilet during the party some costumes can be difficult to get in and out of as well as storage for things like your phone or wallet. It’s also worth knowing how hot it can get in your costume as some people have been known to overheat and feel faint so make sure you get plenty to drink and take off your mask every now and then!
